The demand of manganese ore increases with rising demand of steel. The demand of high grade manganese ore is going to increase in near future on account of the increase in production of steel in India. Hence, it would be essential to use low grade manganese resources after proper enrichment. The aim of the present study is to enrich the manganese values in low grade manganese ore by classification and multistage high intensity magnetic separation in pilot scale. A flowsheet has been proposed for beneficiation of low grade ferruginous manganese ore of eastern part of India. It is possible to enrich Mn value upto 38-39% in the concentrate with Mn/Fe value going as high as 2.6.
