ABSTRACT
This work presents the extraction of hydroxyapatite (HA) from the chicken bone by the thermal treatment. The synthetic HA is purity and high crystallinity. The removal of zinc ions on synthetic HA was examined. The obtained results show that the synthetic HA has a good capacity for zinc removal with the high efficiency of 92.1% after 16 hours of experiment. The study of adsorption isotherm showed that the zinc removal was fitted for both the Langmuir and Freundlich models, in which the Langmuir model was more suitable due to the higher value of correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.98211) . The maximum adsorption capacity of zinc ions was the high value (Qm = 833.33 mg/g). Thus, synthetic HA extracted from the chicken bone, a low-cost material, presents as a potential material for zinc contamination treatment.
