Organic compounds are used to control the corrosion of carbon steel in acid solutions. synthesized Schiff bases, N,N2 -bis(4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde)-1,3-Propandiimine (4-FPTMD), N,N2 -bis(4-Hydroxybenzaldehyde)-2,2-Dimethylpropandiimin (p-HBDP), N,N2 -bis(4-Hydroxyben zaldehyde)-1,2-Cyclohexandiimine (4-HBC) have been investigated as green inhibitors for corrosion of carbon steel in 1M hydrochloric acid. For this purpose; potentiodynamic polarization, AC impedance measurements, were utilized. Further, the (4-FPTMD), displayed the best inhibiting characteristics for this system, with a maximum IE of approximately 73% having added only 2×10-4M. The molecular structure of Schiff base inhibitors was discussed to obtain optimized structure and their inhibitory action. The variation in the protection ability of three Schiff bases can be attributed to their spatial molecular structure and molecular electronic structure. Furthermore, electronegative oxygen and nitrogen atoms facilitate the adsorption of the molecule on the steel surface. Specimen surfaces were characterized using AFM. The surface roughness of steel after the addition of p-HBDP, is more than 4-HBC and 4-FPTMD.
